Journey to Dudhsagar waterfalls

While in Goa

Having been to Goa many a times, we never knew that this nature's divine waterfalls known as "Dudhsagar" is yet another exciting adventurous trip near Mumbai . It was during one of a social dinners that we were made aware of this beautiful place. My darling wife and me especially planned a trip to Goa last winter season in December 2016 to visit Dudhsagar waterfalls.

Winter in Goa during 3rd week of December was pleasant. The temperature during night dropped to 22 deg C, but daytime was warm. I researched about Dudhsagar and came to know that ideal months to witness the experience was after the late monsoon period (October) as during the monsoon it remains closed for visitors.  Dudhsagar waterfalls is located between the Goa and Karnataka borders of the Western Ghats

Journey to Dudhsagar begins

We took this journey to Dudhsagar from Benaulim in South Goa. We arranged a deal with a Driver with his own car for Rs. 2200/- to and fro. If you need his contact details, feel free to email or message me. We commenced our journey at 6.30 am from Benaulim. Sure enough the driver was there but was late by 10 mts. It took about 1.30 hours to reach Kulem (Culem) which is a point where the Car driver dropped us. He then guided us to a designated area to purchase the tickets and mandatory life jackets from a Goa government body who organize visitors to enter the Forest region to reach Dudhsagar.

Upon reaching Kulem

The cost of tickets  was Rs.450/- per per passenger, and a maximum of 8 persons are allowed to be seated in a Jeep. Life Jackets are compulsory and have to be returned back after the trip. We were paired with a group of 6 Russians. We two got seats at the back. If you get a chance, occupy the front two seats next to the driver to get a better view and less of bumps and rumblings. Here our Car driver told us to meet him in this same spot after returning from Dudhsagar trip. It was about 9 am, that we actually started moving to proceed to the dense forest.

After you disembark from Jeep near Dudhsagar waterfall base

It took about 40 mts to 1 hour drive inside this dense forest to reach at a disembarkation point as Jeeps cannot go further up. This drive was very adventurous filled with bumps and jerks as the track was unlike any road. It was more than a normal off road experience. The Jeep had to cross through many water streams, big stones and gravel. From there its a beautiful 10 to 15 minutes walk / trek to reach at the base of the Dudhsagar falls. Watch the video to get the feel of it. Feel free to email me for any tips on this journey.

I noticed a profile of a person on a large stone while walking from the disembarkation point towards the Dudhsagar waterfall spot. It's not a painting but a natural shape that was created from the shadows of the sun
